Remembering the Days of Summer Sun and Laughter
This year, the Sisterhood took a rather prolonged vacation, hence, no blog posts. We made good use of our time off to pretty much do whatever we wanted, and the good news is âweâre back!â We are relaxed, refreshed and ready to entertain you with fascinating stories and anecdotesâŚ.well, we think theyâre worth a readđ
Sunshine and Summertime
by Middle Sis
We are blessed to live in a town situated between two lakes and surrounded by vineyards and orchards with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures all summer long. Not to mention festivals and events almost every weekend. So summer for us means lots of visitors.

We are always so happy when kids and grandkids are able to make the trek from Alberta to visit us and check out their favourite things to do. After the requisite height measurement for all the grandkids on the post in grandmaâs dining room, they are off and running; golf, boating and backyard smores were the main attraction this year. And I will say after 15 years, we are getting very good at blowing up extra mattresses and making sure that we have a place for everyone at the table.
This year was a little bit different than years past because summer jobs and other commitments meant not everyone was able to visit. My friends tell me to wait a few years and once grandkids hit their 20s they will once again be able to visit. Iâm counting on this.â¤ď¸
We were also happy to host our niece and nephew and their families this year. We enjoyed giving them a home base from which they could explore and discover all that at our area has to offer. With younger children the beach was a big attraction as was mini golf for the kids and wineries for the adults. And as a bonus, quite a few pounds of fresh picked peaches and apricots went home with them.đ
A Lazy Summer
by Big Sis
If I wanted to write about a summer of fun and laughter, then I would tell you all about my husbandâs adventures. He was constantly on the go with several fishing and golf trips. I, on the other hand, chose to move forward with a life altering decision that pretty much demanded a quiet and sedentary few months. Wait for itâŚ.I had bunion surgery! Yes, after years of complaining and procrastinating, I finally took the plunge.
There is of course an existential question here, and it is âWhy would I have surgery in the summertime?âTo be honest, I donât have a good answer. An available date came up and I impulsively decided to go for it.
Of course I could have used my incapacitation to think profound thoughts and organize my life, but I chose instead to just âchill.â I read mindless cheesy novels, watched tons of tv and focused on my recuperation (meaning, I did as little as possible and played it for all it was worth) I guess in that light, I could label my summer as, âlazy but kind of fun?â

Truth be told, there are enough details to produce a full blog post on this topic alone. I look forward to regaling you with my bunion surgery journey, at a later date. Watch for it. You will be amazed!đ
The celebration of a life time
By Little Sis
Getting older might not sound like much fun to people, but this year I celebrated my 60th Birthday, and it was the best one yet.

It all started when my Husband told me were going to go out for dinner. I didnât think much of it because we had been wanting to try this new restaurant for a while. (I gotta be honest here, I was pretty tired, and a really did not feel liked doing anything.) But I went along with him, thinking about what I would like to have for dinner. He told me there was one catch. We had to stop off at Big Sisâ house because he needed to drop off a golf club. I was totally clueless as to what would happen next.
We got to Big Sisâ house, my Husband went inside and I waited patiently in the car. After a couple of minutes he came out and said I needed to go inside because Big Sis Big Sis needed to talk to me. So I innocently obliged. As I came in I noticed a Happy Birthday sign, and said out loud â whose birthday is it?â not realizing it was mine. As I rounded the corner into the kitchen, I heard this loud â Surprise!â and then the light bulb went on. I realized it was my birthday! Naturally my first reaction was to push my Husband, and call him a brat.

I was greeted not just my family, but my Husbandâs family as well. I had no idea he was working behind the scenes with Big, and Middle Sis! This was the first time since we got married 32 years ago that both our families have been together. This is the best present I have ever gotten! It made realize that family is everything. This is truly a day I will never forget. Best Summer Ever!
And Weâre BackâŚ
So there you have itâŚa brief summary of our fascinating summer activities. Do not ever let it be said that The Sisterhood cultivates a quiet, rather boring existence. No Sir! Excitement is our middle name and we are just getting started on another series of adventures.đComing up in October, another trip to the East Coast, continuing our quest to walk a 5K in every Province. Letâs go!đśââď¸đśââď¸đśââď¸
