🎵Happy Birthday to Me🎵
Birthdays are really something, aren’t they. If one is optimistic, they are a clean slate, a chance to reset and make plans for the year ahead. On the other hand, if one tends towards pessimism, they are another marker added to the relentless march of time. Looking in the mirror can be an exercise in futility, and even depressing. You realize that you have more years behind you than in front of you.
Having recently turned 75, I believe I am qualified to comment on this milestone. Even though there are days when I feel and look all of those 75 years, I choose to be optimistic and even “joyful.” I mean what is the point of bemoaning getting older? It just ruins the “now,” and when the “now” is dwindling and out of your control, all you can realistically do is hang on for the rest of the ride. Okay, let’s move on.
Celebrate Good Times

My 75th birthday was a quiet family affair and that is exactly how I wanted it. Hubby cooked a delicious meal all by himself, and that alone was a lovely, much appreciated gift. And speaking of gifts, they were numerous and original, mostly on a theme that was somewhat mystifying. Apparently, I often have cold hands and feet, hence the heated slippers and hand warmers, and a heated scarf thrown in for good measure. They were other gifts, too numerous to mention, but much appreciated.
Hubby also searched high and low and sourced some baby memorabilia. It was both remarkable and funny to look at my 75year old Baby Record. I was the first child, so the detail was considerable, from my first steps to my first words, to a detailed list of gifts received, and everything in between. Perhaps most interesting, however was the fact that 75 years ago, Mom was an original recycle advocate. My Baby Record did double duty for my brother. My entries were in ink and his in pencil. Middle Sis (child number 3) only rated a few pencil entries here and there. I guess by then Mom was busy with 3 kids under the age of 4.

Young at Heart
🎵So here is the best part, you’ll have a head start, if you are among the very young at heart🎵 (Frank Sinatra)
As unsettling as getting older might be, it is remarkably freeing. You no longer care what others think. You are free to live life on your own terms and do whatever you want (within reason of course.😊) And that is what makes The Sisterhood so special. We keep in touch, we support each other and we just have a lot of fun, doing silly things together. We have both a purpose (to honor Mom) and a strong bond. Does that mean we are young at heart? I don’t know but we are for sure enjoying our senior years together, and I know, Betty Would Love That!
