Sisters Dish,  Travels with My Sisters

And the Saga Continues…

A Quick Recap…

The Sisterhood is on an athletic adventure, and an inspirational mission. Yes, we are still walking to Montreal to see our brother Randy. When last we spoke, we were enjoying the lovely town of Princeton, B.C. Canada. Since then, we have braved torrential rain, physical pain (we’re approaching the mountains now) and overwhelming depression….. just kidding about the depression! In case you are wondering though, Big Sis is still complaining of foot pain, Middle Sis is still ridiculously upbeat and Little is preoccupied with Biscuit’s well being and comfort. But I digress.

We are now just outside of Enderby,B.C., where we are going to rest for a bit and gather our strength to forge ahead. This has not been easy people!

Enderby is a lovely small town located on the shores of the Shushwap River in the heart of the Thompson-Okanagan region of B.C. It is scenic and welcoming. We chose to stop here to indulge in the many outdoor activities available to talented, athletic visitors like us. In fact, we plan to do some hiking, cycling and even camping….Umm, maybe.

There is, however, an even more compelling reason for choosing to stay over in this lovely area. Perhaps you have heard of the Worlds Largest Lawnmower? Neither had we, but we did our homework and could barely contain our excitement!

This grass is a real mess but Harv will soon whip it into shape!

What’s so exciting about an oversized lawnmower, you ask? Well, we have vivid memories of our Father’s fixation with his lawn. Every spring he aerated, fertilized and obsessed over it. As spring turned into summer, he would twice weekly cut the grass in a meticulous, repeat pattern. It was a method that only he was capable of creating. (Which was fine with us. Who wants to cut the grass anyway?) And of course his lawnmower was carefully maintained and cared for. It was a prized possession. Thus, its only natural that we in turn, would have what one might call an unusual interest in lawnmowers. And here was a golden opportunity to pay tribute to Dad’s legacy!😄

Herb and his Lawnmower

The World’s Largest Lawnmower is part of the Deep Creek Tool Museum, owned and operated by Herb Higginbottom. We didn’t meet him in person but we’re pretty sure that he is both knowledgeable and welcoming. For more info and hours of operation click on the link below. You’ll be glad you did!

So far it’s been a fascinating and educational venture. We have to admit to fatigue but we are undaunted. We made a commitment and we’re sticking to it. The only question now is where do we go from here?

Our next stop will definitely be in Alberta, but we are torn between two equally captivating destinations. Should we visit the Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington or aim for the World’s Largest Easter Egg in Vegreville?

Torrington is a small hamlet north east of Calgary which means it is by far, the most direct route on our journey. But that’s not all! Besides the pull of the Gopher Museum, all 11 of its fire hydrants are painted to look like gophers! The opportunities for photo shoots abound and given our “penchant for posing,” that just might seal the deal.

Vegreville on the other hand is a town east of Edmonton, which means it is well out of our way. The problem is, it looks like a really fun place, especially in July when they celebrate their Annual Pysanka (Ukrainian for Easter Egg) Festival. Take a look. https://www.pysankafestival.com/

Welcome to the Gopher Hole Museum
World’s Largest Easter Egg

Rats! I feel a headache coming on. Maybe its best if we just grab a glass of wine (once Big has finished soaking her feet, Middle has meditated on our dilemma and Little has ensured that Biscuit is comfortable), and toss a coin. Tune in again soon to learn which spot won our hearts.

🎵Happy Trails to you until we meet again.🎵

We plan on doing a new post every Monday so stay tuned for our next one entitled “The Doglympics”
