Travels with My Sisters

Having Fun is #1….

Have you ever wanted to just get away? Well, after our mom Betty passed in 2017, that is exactly what we wanted to do, so we booked a cruise to Alaska! In preparation for our trip, we conferred over packing lists, discussed possible shore expeditions and shared our hopes and dreams for this “magical journey.” First and foremost, however, we established the one unwavering theme of this voyage…..”Having Fun is Number One!”

And so the adventure begins……

Because we are frugal and conscientious, we booked one cabin for the three of us. As per Sisterhood guidelines, Mag was immediately assigned to the roll away cot. Shauna and Kerri were of course sympathetic to any discomfort she may have felt, but hey, that’s life….get over it!

Hmmmm, giving us the evil eye……not happy that she will be sleeping on the cot

After a prolonged period of listening to Mag whine, Kerri and Mag ventured out to explore the ship. In short order, they met a loud, boisterous group of women and in an attempt to fit in with their new friends, proceeded to down an extremely tiny quantity of alcohol. This ultimately led to some amazing epic events:

Epic Event #1

Kerri discovers Lemon Drop Martinis. This would be a continuing theme throughout the cruise and turn into a lifelong obsession. In fact, she has decided to try to find the ultimate Lemon Drop Martini and has made a point of ordering one wherever in the world she might be. So far, Las Vegas is in the lead with San Francisco a close second. 🙂

Uh oh, this could be trouble…….
Epic Event #2

Kerri and Mag discover that they are brilliant. In fact, they have a talent for Trivial Pursuit that is almost unrivaled on the ship….actually, they didn’t even get close to winning but to hear them tell it, they were robbed!

Epic Event #3

Fuelled by moderate alcohol consumption, Kerri and Mag decide to show off their amazing dance moves. Fortunately, Shauna is able to capture the dancing divas in all their glory, on video,

Epic Event #4

Mag’s tickle trunk of useless information comes in handy as she steers her team ( Kerri and Mag) to an unparalleled victory in a game of “Name That Tune.” Their prize is completely useless, but the glow of victory (and alcohol consumption) cannot be diminished.

Epic Event #5

We discover that not everyone appreciates our fascinating personalities or our superior intelligence. Randomly partnered with an elderly grumpy couple for yet another game of Trivial Pursuit, it becomes obvious ( they are practically standing up, as the game unfolds) that they can hardly wait to leave……one of us, who shall remain nameless, makes a somewhat naughty gesture behind their backs…tsk, tsk.

Epic Event #6

After several desperate attempts by Kerri and Shauna, Mag triumphs in single handedly opening a bottle of wine using only her brute strength….amazing!

Eventually, under the influence of the most mature and dignified of us (Shauna), things begin to settle down. We appreciate the beauty of Alaska and rejoice in the beauty of nature.

Rejoicing in the beauty of nature
Our natural beauty eclipsed only by the beauty of Mother Nature

Too soon, our first grand adventure comes to a close. We have many fond memories and we definitely had fun! Plans are already in the works for more exciting escapades…….once Covid-19 allows us to travel again.

Betty Would Love That!

We plan to publish a new post every Monday, so stayed tuned for our next one entitled “Fitness is Fun!”

I can almost hear all three of you giggling with each other in your room – after all you were all born Sulllivans and that bond will never leave you. It is great to share your adventures in this way. Thank you.
