Yes, we are in beautiful downtown Saskatoon and you may be wondering why Saskatoon? Well, I'd like to say it was after careful analysis of the race course, amenities, and if they gave out medals (they did) but really, it fit Mag's work schedule (she being the only sister who is still gainfully employed) and so Saskatoon it was. “We’ll Never See These People Again….”
Senior Athletic Adventure Canada was a brilliant idea. There was, however, a minor glitch.....Kerri just couldn't remember the name. (If you are a member of a group, it's important to know the name of said group). We tried using just the initials SAAC and even "S double A C", to no avail. It became painfully obvious that a name change was in order.....hence, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Shoes was born.

In the Beginning We Created a Memorial…
It seems a bit odd and out of sync to be talking about an event that took place before the arrival of Covid 19 and social distancing. Today's post relives the lovely memory of a 5K walk on a beautiful sunny day when we mingled freely without concern for our health, or our distance from those walking with us. Our story begins in August of 2018 when we found ourselves in Edmonton for a 5K Memorial Walk/Family Reunion.

We have really enjoyed telling you Mom's story. In doing so, we have remembered many happy times and just how much fun she was. Our main intent in writing the blog was to honor her with adventures and lots of fun activities. We feel it's time to do just that, but first, we would like to introduce ourselves.

Many years ago, over coffee, a friend indignantly described a radio program portraying older women as invisible. I was much younger at the time and the topic just didn't resonate with me. I tried very hard to pretend that I was interested but my mind was on other "younger" topics.

In case you were wondering, we also had a father. That handsome man is our father, Harvey, and although he was not a tall man, he was a giant in our eyes. As much as Mom influenced our upbringing with her easy going approach to parenting, ( ie. it was often worth your while to argue and push back), Dad was the steady, firm and sometimes maddeningly stubborn hand on the wheel. His was the ultimate and final authority. “Wait until your father gets home” was enough to bring absolute silence on our part. Although this blog is about Mom, we have just marked the 8th anniversary of Dad’s passing…

The Silverware Mystery
When an elderly person passes away, there are usually memories and memorabilia left behind. Mom was no exception. Her passion was taking pictures....many of which featured bodies with no heads, blurry images and some selfie attempts that were of poor quality to say the least.

Making Friends the Betty Way
Our mom always had friends, lots of friends. It seemed like everyone who crossed paths with her became her friend in short order and many friendships endured for a lifetime. It was always a bit of a mystery to us how mom managed to strike up and maintain so many friendships.
