I have been cohabiting with the same man for fifty years and by anyone's standards, that's a long, long time. Don't worry. This isn't going to be a lengthy, boring description detailing the minutiae of those fifty years, but rather a celebration of where we are at today, because where we are at today is pretty darn wonderful. Changing of the Guard
I was saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth and in reading about what this would mean to the Royal Family, the phrase “changing of the guard” caught my eye. This got me to thinking about the changes that we all face as we age and how we navigate the changing of the guard in our family. Home Away From Home As Mom and Dad aged, Big and Little Sis gradually took on a bigger role in their lives. Driving them to appointments and hosting family dinners was now a regular occurrence. There is no disputing that our tiaras and the ensuing hilarity were a highlight of our vacation, but there is so much more to tell. The Tiara Trio
Recently, the Sisterhood decided to take a short vacation just to “clear the cobwebs,” relax and above all, maximize the fun factor. We had originally planned a visit to Montreal but instead ended up on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada….its a long story. Of course we are first and foremost planners. This was to be a post just a few days before we left for Montreal to walk a 5k race and see our brother Randy. It’s generally acknowledged that motherhood is a challenge. Not only are you tasked with the every day, keeping the house running smoothly tasks, you are expected to go above and beyond to teach your children essential life skills. Every once in a while life blesses you with an experience that lands in your heart, stays there and leaves you sweet memories. And every once in a while those memories reappear and you relive the magic. In this case, the magic took place in August 2019 when my daughters (affectionately referred to here as #one and #two) decided that a girls trip to Italy was in order. Much to my delight, I was included in that category.
